#16 How my video will attract my perfect audience member...

To attract the perfect 'fangirl' audience member, we will do a few stereotypical boy band shots and plots.
We are going to show the band in school, as rebels, which is what every fangirl loves about boy bands - the rebellious side to them.
The boys in the band (3 of them), will all be good friends, who are all chasing one girl, who just happens to play a musical instrument that they need in their band.
Eventually, the boys and the girl will all play together in a show, and will be united, which is like the happy ending to a fairy story - another thing fangirls love.
The band will also be the popular ones in the school, and every girl that see's them will want them, but they say no. Therefore the fangirls would want to be like the girl who gets to hang around with them, as they want to hang around with their idols.
We will do close ups of the bands faces, with that cheeky boy band smile that all the teenage girls love!
Another shot we will do which teenage girls love is the close up of the playing of guitars, as teenage fangirls may find boys in bands who play guitars more attractive than others!

#15 Perfect Audience Member

Fan Girl!
I did some research on channel 4's 'UK Tribes', did a quiz according to the way that someone who likes the genre of music may think, and the outcome was that the viewer would be a fan girl!
Here are some characteristics and how a fan girl may think...

Here is someone I think would look like a typical fangirl, wit one of her prized possessions.

#14 Audience Research - Why they watch the videos they watch...

Here is my audience research, which I carried out on web messengers!!

From my mum...

From a good friend (my fellow production buddy)
I basically just like any music which has a good beat and good lyrics and I like certain artist styles the video doesn't really influence it because if it was a bad music video it wouldn't put me off the song, I like music videos with narratives and lip synching... I don't like music videos with too much dancing or irrelevance

From another good friend...
I listen to most my music on youtube, so it is quite important for me that the video is good too. It has to grab my attention, and be fun, and have structure (a story line). If the video is boring, and very random, I won't watch it, its not worth it.

#13 Mood Board

Here is the mood board I have created for the ideas I would like to use in my music video. I have included several shots of live bands performing, because each of the pictures has different lighting, and therefore gives a different effect to the people who are viewing.
I also included an image of an emo, because I think for the female character in our video, it would suit the style, as it makes her look more 'out there' and 'individual'.
I also included an image of a recording studio, as I think it would be good to have a shot with the 'band' recording some material, as this is sort of what makes a band, and their image in a music video.
I have put an image of a male singer singing into a microphone, in a close up shot, as I think this is a must for all pop videos, as it features in many 'boy band' pop videos, therefore, should feature in ours.
There is an image of the St. Trinians uniform, as it is the sort of thing I would like the characters to be wearing at the start of the video while in detention.

#12 Storyboard of 1st Minute of a Music Video

I See Fire - Ed Sheeran

#11 Nine key shots from another pop video

Superheroes - The Script
These are 9 key shots, from left to right, top to bottom...
1. The first shot is an establishing shot. It shows us the environment that the video is set in, and the type of people in the video. It shows us that this is probably in a poorer part of the world, as it looks overpopulated and the quality of houses does not look good, and in the background it looks like there's a slum.
2. This shot is a mid shot of the band, who are playing the song, that is the track for this video. It shows them higher up than everyone else, on a stage, and makes them look really important compared to everyone else in the shot, who are at the foot of the stage dancing. We see that they have expensive equipment, and then a piano with most of its panels missing, which makes it fit in with the background scenery better.
3. A long shot of a man, alone in his house getting ready for the day ahead. As he is alone, this suggests that he is one of the main characters in the video, and that we'll see more of him later in the video. His house looks dark, and quite dirty, and makes him look more desperate for a companion.
4. A series of shots of the man leaving his home, with what looks like a bag full of things. He looks like a silhouette as he walks into the sunset/rise, making the shot look more edgy. We see some rubbish on the streets, showing us how deprived the area is, and that maybe he's trying to escape.
5. The crowd of people watching the band. This again shows how untidy the place is, with overgrown plants etc. We see that the members of the crowd are all having fun.
6. A long, low angle shot of a young girl, sitting alone on the steps outside. She appears to be waiting for someone, maybe the man we saw earlier? This shot makes her look vulnerable, as she is also sat in the shadows. This shot of her on her own would also imply she is a key character in the video.
7.  This is a very effective shot. It makes the band stand out as silhouettes and shows the local people having fun, and waving their flares in the air. The smoke adds mood to the scene, making it seem more dangerous as the night falls.
8. The birds flying in this scene may symbolise freedom. They take off from the place where the lonely man is. It is a low angle shot, put into slow motion.
9. This is a key shot for the video, where the lonely man, found the girl, and they appear to be father and daughter, along with a few shot reverse shots of the two approaching each other, we see them embracing. It is a very happy moment, and is shown in a mid shot, with the sun setting in the background.

#10 Textual analysis of similar videos

Busted - What I Go To School For on MUZU.TV. Busted- ‘What I Go To School for’ music video analysis This video contains a few classroom scenes, which is similar to what we wish to use for the start of our video. However we would want the boys to be chasing a student, not the teacher. The light in the classroom is natural light. You can see it coming in through the windows. It makes the scene seem more relaxed than most other classroom scenarios in music videos, which is sort of what I would like our video to be like. The natural light makes it easier to understand, and see what’s going on, whereas in a dark room, it adds gloominess, but I think it means you see less. The points where the classroom is not filled with daylight is where the room is filled by the light coming from the film projector, which provides sufficient light, and builds suspense for what’s coming when we see the room in full light. The costumes that the students (band et al.) are wearing are school uniforms, with typical ties, blazers and shirts. This makes the school parts of this video seem more real, and makes the band look more like real pupils. The uniform also helps us to tell that the boys are some of the ‘cooler’ ones, as they are wearing their ties and shirts slightly different to everyone else. You can also see they stand out from the crowd because of the large amount of hair gel they are wearing! There is a wide range of shots in the video, inlcuding the typical close ups, mid shot of the band sat down, extreme close ups of the face etc. There is a match on action shot when one member of the band drops a pencil and the teacher picks it up. This shows us how much the band member admire the teacher, as the lyrics to the song tell us what she is doing, and why too, making it much mire clear that the student likes the teacher. One other iconic shot is the low angle shot of the lads jumping while (quite obviously) pretending to play their guitars. This makes it look like they have jumped higher; therefore making them seem more atheletic. This shot is also a long shot, which shows a large crowd of other “cool” students dancing behind the band, proving their popularity amongst students. The video is set mainly in a classroom, but sometimes outside on what appears to be a typical British council estate. The classroom, yet again, makes the video seem more like it realy is about school boys. When the lights go out in the classroom for the movie, it makes the room seem atmospheric, and seems to make the boys more excited about the prospect of the teacher walking in and teaching them, showing us close ups of her finger nails, which are red. Red is significant because it has connotations of love, but also of evil. The council estate scenes show us that the area they are in isn’t great, and is probably full of other weird things. It also explains the way they are wearing their uniform. Mika – ‘Grace Kelly’ Music video analysis In this video, there are a lot of images of a band playing live and is mainly foccused on the singer, Mika. I would really like to use images of a live band in my video, and this is great inspiration. The main lighting in this video is quite dark, as it is set in a room, which is of a reasonable size, at night or in the evening, as there is absolutely no light coming in from outside the windows. This makes it seem like more like a rehearsal of a band than a live show. It also makes it feel much more intimate, and thay you are closer to the band. However, there is use of handheld lights. In one scene, there is some of the band members waving tube lights around in slow motion pretending to be fighting. This is effective as it makes it look like they are having a lot of fun, like normal friends do. It also makes the video look more fun when mika is swinging the light around by himself whilst singing. In the video, Mika is always wearing bright colours, which makes him stand out from the other band members as the main guy. Also wearing bright colours is the young girl, who speaks at the start and at the end. She is wearing a lime green poofy dress, which makes her look young and angelic, but at the same time a little bit cheeky. The video is set mainly in one room of a large house, which contains many upper class features, like large windows and a huge, detailed fireplace. This shows that maybe the party/rehearsal that happened was a group of friends in maybe a parents’ house. One of the key shots for me in this video is the eyeline match shots between mika and the small girl. When he’s playing the piano and singing at the same time, he’s always looking up and the girl, and when the camera turns to the girl, she’s looking at him. This shows that maybe the song is like a conversation between the two of them and they are engaging deep eye contact.

#9 Who I admire for music videos.

#8 Seeking Permission

We asked for permission via Twitter, and received no negative response so we are going ahead with the song 'Rockstar' as planned!

#7 Things to Consider

Lighting
We aim to use a number of different types of lighting in our video, as we want to create more than one atmosphere. I believe that lights can really change the atmosphere in a shot.
We would use some dramatic lighting for a show scene towards the end of our video, using spot lights, and other lights aimed at a stage and a band. At the start we would use fairly natural lighting for a classroom scene.

Camera work and editing
We would use a variety of different camera angles and editing skills. We aim to edit the shots to the beat, as this proves effective in pop videos. We will use a wide range of shots, including low angle, close up, mid shot, and many more!

Lip Synching
We want to make really good use of lip synching, as we believe it will really enhance the feel of our video. We will make sure that when we film the lip sync shots, the person in the shot knows the words and can gear the track so it will be in time!
